in London, UK
What we're looking for
We’re looking for a full-time front-end developer with at least 2-3 years commercial experience to aid our team in producing fantastic web experiences. Every project we build naturally involves new techniques and clever solutions, and we’re looking for a candidate who wants to outdo us with their front-end thinking.
Lighthouse is a digital design and product development studio that not only asks how, but why a product should exist. We combine innovative thinking with a passion for detail to help startups, corporates and charities achieve success with their digital products.
The team also creates products of its own, our latest – Livewire, tackles the problem of responsiveness and content in the wireframing process. It involves plenty of front-end problem-solving.
What you'll be doing
The projects we work on are split between content-driven websites, and feature-driven products. Every member of the team has a keen interest in what makes for a compelling user experience, and a successful online business. You’ll share this passion for products and the web, and want to contribute to the team’s ideas regardless of which project you’re working on.
Working closely with the design team you’ll turn their deliverables into functioning responsive templates using HTML and SCSS. We have been developing our best practices over time and look for you to join us in progressing and following them in all your work.
With every day introducing a new standard, framework and build tool you are keen to keep yourself informed and make good choices on what to use and when. You are performance and accessibility minded and always focus on the user when making decisions.
Somewhere between design and front-end is where you add your magic. There are always opportunities for you to introduce finishing touches to an interface – be it animations, clever interactions or SVG wizardry.
Our chosen tool for content-driven projects is WordPress, you will be supported by the backend developers throughout these projects but an understanding of this CMS and PHP would be beneficial.
How you'll fit in
All the developers at Lighthouse have an eclectic mix of technical skills that determine what projects they undertake and who to pester for advice. This leaves the field open for you to find your place in the team and own it.
Nothing is set in stone with regards to the technology we use, the main thing is that every choice is justified and supported.
Improve with us
We’re always trying to learn new skills and regularly refresh our workflow to include new ideas and deliverables. We set aside time weekly to undertake personal learning and side projects. We run internal hack-days, events and a podcast all in the name of learning, sharing and improving.
We’re ambitious but the environment is relaxed and sociable. The only thing we demand is that you never stop learning and trying to make the next project better than the last.
We’ll give you the independence and support to produce your best work.
Since being set up 9 years ago by a designer and a developer Lighthouse has grown into a highly adaptable and flexible team of talented people. We’re nine people with a big mix of skills allowing us to take projects from concept through to design and development pushing out excellent work and constantly striving to better ourselves.
Starting out as a web design and development studio we’ve evolved a little over the years. While we still work with clients to create awesome websites a large part of our business is now spent working with startups to build bespoke digital products, creating new online businesses and helping entrepreneurs take their ideas to market.
